BILOXI — Biloxi’s season came to an end in the opening round of the Class 7A South State playoffs for the second straight season Monday night.

Visiting Oak Grove nipped the Indians 2-1 at The Biloxi Sports Complex to complete a sweep in the best-of-three series. The perennial state power Warriors move on to the Class 7A South State semifinals against arch-rival Petal later this week.

Biloxi ends the season at 12-16 overall. The Indians played both games in the series without top pitcher Wyatt Pyron, who was held out due to some arm issues he’s been experiencing recently according to those associated with the team.

Still, even without Pyron, Biloxi was in both games right up to the end.

“I thought our guys competed really well throughout the series against a good Oak Grove team,” BHS head coach Hawtin Buchanan said. “Unfortunately, things didn’t quite break our way, but hats off to our seniors for leading the charge and setting the example for our underclassmen for what competing and playoff baseball is all about. I couldn’t be more appreciative of the 2025 class and what they’ve done for our program.”

On Monday night, one of those aforementioned seniors, Shawn Miguel Gollott, did all he could to keep Biloxi’s season alive on the pitcher’s mound as he turned in a complete game worksheet on the hill consisting of six strike outs and scattering just five hits.

Will Parker put the Indians up 1-0 in their first at bat with an RBI-single that scored Adam Rugg after Rugg led off with a triple.

Unfortunately, that lead wouldn’t last long as Gollott suffered through his only rough inning in the top of the second thanks to an RBI-double by Adam Pfaff and another run scored on a passed ball to give Oak Grove a 2-1 lead it would never relinquish.

From there, both Gollot and his Warrior counterpart Gage Thompson locked up in an old-fashioned pitchers duel to close the game out.

Thompson also went the distance to pick up the win, as he struck out seven and allowed just four hits.

Rugg had two hits, including that triple, to pace BHS at the plate.

Gollott was saddled with the tough-luck loss.

Last season, Brandon knocked off Biloxi in the first round of the state playoffs.
