SLIDELL, La. — Mississippi prep football history was made Friday night.
In Louisiana.
For the first time ever in the combined 178 years of both neighboring programs, both the Picayune and Pearl River Central football teams played in Slidell, La., on the same night.
And, both teams moved to 2-0 on the new season with wins, as the Maroon Tide turned back Northshore 27-13 and the Blue Devils knocked off Pope John Paul 34-16.
Picayune, which led 27-0 at halftime, got a pair of rushing touchdowns from tailback Jordan Hathorne, including a 35-yard score in the second quarter, and fellow backfield mate Xavier Dennis also added a scoring run in the win.

Picayune defender A’Darrius Fortenberry also got in on the action when he returned a fumble for a touchdown.
This marks the first time that Picayune has started off a season at 2-0 in three years, the second of back-to-back Class 5A state championships.
“It feels great getting off to a good start, however, there’s so many things that we can improve on and need to get better at as we move along this season.” Maroon Tide head coach Cody Stogner said. “Being battle tested on the road against two really good teams I think can catapult us further into the season and being better prepared because we do have a lot more games ahead. We are just looking to get better week by week.”
Meanwhile, about a mile down the road, PRC was moving to 2-0 for the first time in five years.
Blue Devil quarterback Titus Feaster and PRC running back Caden Hinton each ran for two touchdowns apiece in the 18-point win over the home-standing Jaguars.
