PASCAGOULA — Veteran Pascagoula head boys basketball coach is on the verge of a career milestone.

And he could achieve the historic feat Tuesday night when his Panthers host Picayune in a key Region 4-6A contest.

Wright sits at 299 career wins coming into the week, and he will hit the 300 wins mark with the next PHS win. Pascagoula currently sits at 14-6 overall, and the Maroon Tide is just 10-8 but both teams come in tied atop the region race at 4-0 so far.

Pascagoula, the two-time and defending back-to-back Region 4-6A champs, is currently on a 32-game region win streak, a school record in that category.

Pascagoula thumped home-standing Gautier 78-57 Friday night as both teams resumed Region 4-6A play after a Holiday break.

Pascagoula placed a quartet of players in double digits in the winning effort. Marcus Cooper dropped in a game-high 19 points, while Blake Nettles and Adam Griffin each chipped in 13 points apiece for PHS. Jacob Griffin added 11 points.

It was a big night for the senior standout Dandy Dozen product Nettles, as his 13 points pushed him over the 1,000 career points scored mark at PHS.

Cooper registered eight points in the first quarter, and Adam Griffin added five points in the same period, including a 3-pointer, as Pascagoula jumped out to a quick and commanding 25-11 lead after the opening frame and never looked back.

Meanwhile, Picayune matched Pascagoula’s 4-0 league mark on the same night in similar fashion as the Maroon Tide also went on the road and thumped arch-rival Pearl River Central 55-37. The Maroon Tide now heads to Jackson County Tuesday night in the first of two meetings over the next couple of weeks against the Panthers leading up to the region tournament, which will also take place in Pascagoula.

Jeremiah Mark paced Picayune with 19 points, with 17 of that game-high total coming in the second half. Kelton Stewart chipped in 13 points to the winning effort, while Jordan Hathorne added 11 points.
