Prep Baseball: Rock-A-Chaws roll to sweeps over Fighting Irish and Eagles

By CURTIS ROCKWELL/Sports Director BILOXI — St. Stanislaus sits atop the “Catholic League” in the “Southern Six” this season. The Rock-A-Chaws wrapped up a season sweep over both St. Patrick and Resurrection Saturday afternoon, making it two wins apiece for SSC over both the Fighting Iirsh and the Eagles. St. Stanislaus scored 27 runs in just 11 innings in less than 24 hours, posting an 11-0 win over SPHS in four frames Friday night and a 16-6 decision over RCS Saturday afternoon.

The Rocks started off the week with a 9-0 home win over the Fighting Irish in Region 8-3A play. St. Stanislaus is now 10-3 overall under the direction of first-year head coach Irby Dossett. In that game, SSC starting pitcher Jackson Orozco went five one-hit, shutout stanzas to earn the win, striking out seven and walking six in the process. Ayden Dartez had three hits, including a pair of doubles, and drove in a game-high three hits to pace the Rocks at the plate, while Owyn Cuevas also had three hits and two RBIS in the winning effort. Then, on Friday night, SSC broke open a scoreless contest with nine runs in the top of the fourth. Tate Murphy had two hits, including a home run, and a trio of RBIS for the Rocks, while Wiley Mossy cracked a two-run triple and Lex Rhodes drove in two runs also. Cuevas picked up the pitching win. Gunner Eure took the loss for SPHS, which managed just two singles in each game off of Rock-A-Chaw pitchers. Then, on Saturday, SSC’s 16-6 win over RCS completed that season series with a sweep after a 10-3 win in Pascagoula by the Rocks several weeks ago.
SSC hosts Tylertown in a Region 8-3A doubleheader Thursday.
