ST. MARTIN — The Harrison Central girls bounced back from their first league loss of the year by handing home-standing St. Martin its first Thursday night.
The Lady Red Red Rebels broke open a close contest through three quarters by outscoring the Lady Yellow Jackets by 16 points in the fourth period en route to a 62-47 Region 4-7A win. Both teams are now 2-1 in league play, and trail Biloxi in the standings as the Lady Indians are 2-0 after beating HCHS 47-26 Tuesday which was also Harrison Central’s first overall loss of the season as well.
St. Martin entered the fourth quarter with a slim one point lead at 42-42, but watched as Harrison Central completely took command in the final frame and outscored the Lady Yellow Jackets 21-5 to cruise to the win and get back on the winning track.

The teams fought evenly back and forth through the first three frames. as Harrison Central led slightly at 17-16 after the opening period only to see St. Martin ease back into a 28-28 tie at halftime.
It was much of the same throughout the third frame, but St. Martin’s La’Damyien Lafayette’s put back with 15 seconds left put the Lady Yellow Jackets up 42-41 entering the final stanza.
It was then, though, that Harrison Central began to take control. Anaisha Carriere, Harrison Central’s 6-foot-3 Dandy Dozen standout, scored nine points in the quarter and gave her team a definite inside advantage down the stretch.
Carriere had five points, including a 3-pointer, in the first three minutes fo the period as HCHS began the frame with a 9-0 run to take a 50-42 lead. Sniyah murray also was a key for Harrison Central, as she tallied six points in the fourth quarter including a basket and a pair of free throws as HCHS stretched its advantage to 56-43 with three minutes to play and pretty much sealing the win.

Murray and Carriere combined for 40 points in the win, as Murray tallied a game-high 2 points and Carriere followed with 19. Murray had 16 pointss in the second half, including 10 in the third frame. Larissa Hubbard, who had eight points in the first half, finished with 12 points for HCHS as well.
Kaleah Lowery led St. Martin’s balanced scoring attack with 11 points, while Lafayette added 10 points and Yevette Nathan had nine points.

In other league play, Biloxi travels to Ocean Springs and D’Iberville hosts Gulfport both on Friday night.
Also, in the boys’ game Thursday night, Harrison Central made it a clean sweep on the night with a 50-40 win over St. Martin. Aujaylen Barron scored 12 points for Harrison Central, while the loss overshadowed an impressive performance by Anthony Mora of St. Martin who poured in a game-high 25 points to lead St Martin.
