PERKINSTON — The Hancock-Harrison Central showdown was the highlight of Saturday’s Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Classic which featured four girls’ games including five teams from the “Southern Six”.
In addition to the Lady Hawks, Picayune was the only other are tam to pull out a win Saturday at Dantzler Arena on the MCCCC campus.
“It was a great atmosphere and a fun day for girls basketball,” MGCCC ladies head coach Hope Adams said. “It’s always great to get teams on campus in order to showcase our amazing facilities as well as being able to scout potential recruits. Big thanks to all the coaches and players that participated this year and we are hoping it will continue to grow for years to come.”

In the first game of the day, Picayune beat Lake 43-39 as Rhyen Goss was named the Player of the Game for the Lady Tide. Next up fr Picayune is Forrest County AHS at home Monday night.
In game two, Natchez knocked off Pass Christian 52-23. Pass Christian travels to St. Martin Tuesday night.
In the final game of the day, Wayne County beat Bay High 42-39.

Kierra Burney scored 14 points to pace Bay High, while Kayla Fricke added 12 points for the Lady Tigers.
Bay High led throughout most of the first three quarters. Fricke hit a trio of 3-pointers in the opening quarter as the Lady Tigers took a 13-7 lead heading into the second period. Thanks to Burney, the Lady Tigers continued to extend their advantage just before halftime as she scored nine of her teams 11 points in the second stanza as Bay High led 24-17 at intermission.

But the game would turn quickly as the second half unfolded. Wayne County outscored Bay High 18-11 in the third quarter to knot things up at 35-35 entering the final period. The Lady War Eagles went on to outscore Bay High 9-5 in the final period and the comeback was complete for the three-point win.
Both Starr Pittman and Ariel Parker scored 14 points apiece to pace Wayne County, and Pittman was named the Player of the Game. Taniyah Lewis was named the Player of the Game for Bay High.
Next up for Bay High is Pascagoula at home in the Tiger Dome on Tuesday night.

In the featured match-up, which we reported on Sunday, Hancock beat Harrison Central 49-31 win.
The win moved Hancock to a perfect 13-0 on the season and was the final game for the Lady Hawks of head coach Jamie Sisco before the Christmas break.
It was also the fourth win of the season for the Class 6A Lady Hawks over a member of Region 4-7A this season, coming on the heels of decisions over Ocean Springs, St. Martin and D’Iberville as well. Harrison Central dropped to 10-2 overall and it marked the second loss of the week for the Lady Red Rebels after a loss to Biloxi on Tuesday snapped their nine-game win streak to open the season.
In addition, Hancock was coming off a big league win on he road over Pascagoula Friday night to move to 3-0 in league play.
James led Hancock’s balanced scoring approach with 11 points, while both Cuevas and Necaise added nine points apiece to the winning effort.
Karma Parker had seven points to lead Harrison Central.
