ST. MARTIN — The St. Martin girls’ basketball team will be playing for a rare trifecta on Thursday night.
The Lady Yellow Jackets, under the direction of second-year head coach Jason Kennedy, will be shooting for their third win in three days, which is an accomplishment unto its own.
However, St. Martin will be looking for three victories over three different teams from three separate states when it hosts Fairhope High (Ala.), Thursday night at 6 p.m.
On Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon, the Lady Yellow Jackets won a pair of games in two different states in an 18-hour span, after knocking off Pass Christian at home 66-47 Tuesday night before traveling across the Alabama state line to play in the Gulf Shores Beach Bash on Wednesday afternoon where they beat Newman High of New Orleans, La., 59-7.

St. Martin stands 11-4 overall heading into Thursday’s game with the Lady Pirates, which will be the last before the Christmas break.
“We got the call last minute about playing today so I asked the girls if this was something they felt up to doing, playing back to back to back.” Kennedy said Wednesday afternoon. “And unanimously they accepted the challenge. As a staff, we felt like this could kind of resemble the district tournament when sometimes you have to play back to back. Court time is so important for this group we are learning and growing with each game.”
In Wednesday’s win, sophomore standout Kaleah Lowery poured in a game-high 30 points to lead the way for the Lady Yellow Jackets. Her senior teammate Zee Allen added nine points to the winning effort.

“The thing I love most about this group is that we never know who will be our leading scorer,” Kennedy continued. “We try to take advantage of mismatches and we always want to stay with the hot hand.”
In Tuesday’s big win over Pass Christian, Lowery and senior Tierra Lee tallied a game-high 14 points apiece to lead the way to the victory, while Kylenn Ward finished with 10 points and La’dymien Lafayette chipped in eight points.
For Pass Christian, Kamiyah Pruitt registered.a game-high 19 points while Arrian Crimm chipped in 13 points for the Lady Pirates.
“Going for the trifecta tomorrow, beating a Mississippi team Tuesday and a Louisiana team team today and hopefully an Alabama team tomorrow night.” Kennedy concluded. “Anytime you play with a short turnaround you really test your mental side of the game. Legs might be a little tired, might be a little short on sleep but we talk about it all the time no excuses. The Lady Jacket motto ‘is it doesn’t matter get better’”.
