The homecourt advantage was certainly a favorable thing for a trio of boys prep basketball squads in the “Southern Six” Thursday night over a trio of local opponents as well.
Moss Point, West Harrison and St. Patrick all picked up wins on the evening, as the Tigers knocked off D’Iberville 41-28 while the Hurricanes moved past George County in Region 4-6A play 60-45. Also, the Fighting Irish ran by Gautier 65-32.

In Moss Point, Quey’Seasn Taylor scored 13 points and Tyrese Ricardo added 12 points for the Tigers of head coach Daryl Osby as Moss Point moved to 9-7 overall heading into the Christmas break.
The Tigers bounced back from a loss to open Region 8-4A to Greene County earlier in the week and sent MPHS into a short layoff on a good note. Taylor added nine rebounds and five assists, while JuJuan Nettles also pulled down nine boards for the Tigers in the win. The Warriors dropped to 6-10 overall with the loss.

Meanwhile, in Gulfport West Harrison moved to 2-1 in Region 4-6A action with the 15-point win over the Rebels. George County dropped to 0-3 in league play with the loss.
The West Harrison dynamic duo of Owen Reese and Jazear Carter combined for 36 points in leading the way to the win, as Carter carried the ‘Canes in the first half and Reese did the same in the second half.
The 6-foot-2 sophomore Carter tallied 11 of his point total in the first half, and Reese added seven including a 3-pointer as West Harrison vaulted out.
Reese then added a dozen points in the second half to help keep the Rebels out-distanced. Kameron Bolden gave the Hurricanes a trio of players in double digits in the win as he finished with 10 points also.
George County’s Deuce Knight scored a game-high 20 points for the Rebels, with 18 of those coming in the second half when the game was pretty much decided. He had a game-high four treys as well.

Ironically enough, Moss Point hosted West Harrison a week ago and picked up a 46-36 win. Alejandro Montalvo led the Tigers with 20 points in that game, while Reese led the Hurricanes with 11.
West Harrison is back in action Friday night hosting Gautier.
That same Gator squad is coming in fresh off that 33-point thumping at the hands of St. Patrick in Biloxi Thursday night. The win extended St. Patrick’s winning streak to six as it heads into a short lay-off for the Christmas break.
The Fighting Irish moved to 11-4 overall on the season with the win.
