The Moss Point boys wasted no time getting back on the basketball court after taking a short Christmas break.
The Tigers traveled to Jackson to take part in the prestigious Jackson Public Schools Christmas Tournament on Tuesday afternoon, and Moss Point came away with a 41-35 win over Jackson Wingfield at Jackson Lanier High to move to 10-8 overall on the season.
Moss Point will remain in Jackson for day two action in the long-standing annual event on Thursday, facing Warren Central also back at Lanier High.
“We’re using a tournament like the JPS as a platform to play different teams in different places to get us ready for the playoffs,” Moss Point head coach Daryl Osby said Tuesday night. “We want to be battle-tested when the time arrives.”

The Tigers aren’t the only boys team on the Mississippi Gulf Coast traveling out of town or even out of state to play in holiday tournaments this week.
The Harrison Central Red Rebels are headed to Mobile, Ala., for the Gulf Coast Holiday Classic at Springhill College.
The action begins on Thursday, as HCHS faces Faith Academy of Mobile at 9 a.m., on the opening day. In other action in that three-day, true tourney-style event, Crescent City meets Theodore, Cottage Hill faces Albertville and Williamson takes on Daphne.
The tourney wraps up on Saturday.
Also, Ocean Springs heads across the Alabama state line as well as the Greyhounds head to Hoover, Ala., for the prestigious Big Orange Classic at Hoover High.
Ocean Springs will compete in the “Varsity Orange” bracket, facing Benjamin Russell High in the opening round Thursday. Other Alabama teams in that bracket, in addition to BRHS, are Cullman, Oxford and Montgomery Bell while a pair of teams from Florida round that side out in Booker T. Washington of Pensacola and Escambia.
There’s also an eight-team “Varsity Black” Bracket. Each bracket will play a three-day, true tourney style format ending on Saturday.
