BILOXI — A quartet of girls’ “Southern Six” squads came away with a pair of wins apiece after two days of play in the seventh annual Lady Indians Christmas Classic here at the Biloxi High Sports Complex this week.
The host Lady Indians, the unbeaten Hancock Lady Hawks, Ocean Springs Lady Greyhounds and D’Iberville Lady Warriors all wrapped up play on Friday with wins after starting play on Thursday with victories as well.
Biloxi closed the event out early Friday evening with its second consecutive solid outing. The Lady Indians posted a 58-19 thumping of Greene Couty, Ala., out of Eutaw, Ala.




Biloxi freshman center Zaniya Johnson, who scored a career-high 43 points in a 57-22 win over St. Scholastica on Thursday, tallied a game-high 25 points on Friday to guide BHS again. Amarie Meredith added nine points to the winning effort and Jada Washington chipped in eight points for the Lady Indians. Aaliyah Davidson dished out six assists and had five steals, and Meredith added four assists and four steals also.
Biloxi now stands an impressive 16-1 on the season.
The only team in the tourney without a loss so far, Hancock, remained that way Friday afternoon with a hard-fought 34-31 win over Booker T. Washington of Pensacola, Fla.
The Lady Hawks moved to 15-0 with the win. Hancock also beat Wayne County 59-44 on Thursday.




Meanwhile, the D’Iberville Lady Warriors picked up a pair of wins as well beating Greene County on Thursday 74-39 and knocking off Lake High on Friday to move to 9-6 on the season.
And, Ocean Springs won two straight games for the first time this season beating a pair of teams from Alabama as on Thursday the Lady Greyhounds knocked off Baker High of Mobile 68-51 and then beat Holy Spirit Catholic of Tuscaloosa 47-21.




Also, Pascagoula split a pair of games against two teams from South Alabama in the event, as the Lady Panthers beat Alma Bryant 56-38 after losing to Blount on Thursday 43-39.
Meanwhile, the Moss Point Lady Tigers also split a pair of games in the two-day event, beating Baker High 43-20 on Friday after losing to Houston High 34-25 on Thursday.

And, the Picayune girls split a pair of games as well beating Holy Spirit Catholic on Thursday 70-15 before falling to Blount 52-46 on Friday.
In addition, on the boys’ side of things, a pair of “Southern Six” squads were involved as well as and both Biloxi and Hancock High came away with a pair of wins apiece.
The Indians beat Greene County 68-28 on Thursday and followed that up with a 72-22 thumping of Holy Spirit Catholic on Friday.
The Hawks stopped Holy Spirit Catholic on Thursday 72-36 and came back to beat Greene County 60-34 on Friday.
