Pascagoula ran its win streak to 19 games and maintained complete control of the boys’ race in Region 4-6A with a dominating 69-29 win over home-standing Long Beach Wednesday night.
The win makes the Panthers now an impressive 19-1 overall on the season and PHS stands a perfect 6-0 in league play.
Pascagoula jumped out to a quick 21-12 lead after the first quarter, and the deficit would have been larger for the Bearcats if it had not been for a buzzer-beating 3-pointer from Wayne Ulrich.
That shot just seemed to irritate the Panthers, however, as PHS tossed up a shutout to the home team in the second stanza out-scoring the Bearcats 21-0 in the period to take a commanding 42-12 advantage into halftime.
Blake Nettles and Dorian McMillan led the charge for PHS in the second quarter, as Nettles tallied seven points including a 3-pointer of his own and McMillan added six points in the stanza.

McMillian paced Pascagoula with 15 points and four assists in the win, and Nettles added 11 points to the winning effort. Cle’Darius Ross grabbed even rebounds as well.
Ulrich, who was coming off a 23-point performance in a loss to George County last week, put in 12 points to lead the Bearcats against Pascagoula as LBHS fell to 0-6 in the region and 4-17 overall.
Also on Wednesday night, in other Region 4-6A play, home-standing Picayune beat West Harrison 53-44 as the Maroon Tide bounced back from its first league loss of the season to Pascagoula late last week. With the win, the Maroon Tide remained on the heels of the Panthers at 5-1 in the region race.

Picayune nearly doubled up on the Hurricanes in the early going, taking a 15-8 lead after the first frame. Brunson Stockstill had six points in the period for Picayune, including a 3-pointer.
The Maroon Tide stretched their lead just a bit in the second stanza, thanks in main part to seven points including a trey from freshman Kelton Stewart, and in turn took a 26-18 advantage into halftime.
West Harrison’s Javon McCaleb went to work in the third frame in hopes of brewing up a Hurricane comeback, as he nailed a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points in the period and WHHS cut into Picayune’s lead throughout the quarter and trailed just 36-33 as the fourth period started.

But Picayune’s Dakeith Quinn, who scored only two points in the first half, retaliated with 14 points in the second half including 12 points in the all-important final frame as the Maroon Tide held off the Hurricanes for the win.
It marked the second time Picayune beat WHHS this season, after a 50-44 road win five weeks ago. Picayune moved to 17-6 overall, as Quinn and Stewart shared game-high honors with 16 points apiece and Stockstill chipped in 11 points in the winning effort. Quinn hit five free throws in the fourth period and Stewart added four free shots.
West Harrison got 13 points from McCaleb and Owen Resse added 11 points for the Hurricanes as they drop to 12-8 overall.
The two games played Wednesday night were postponements from Tuesday. The other Region 4-6A contest that was originally slated for Tuesday night was Hancock at George County, and that game was moved to Thursday, Jan. 25th.
