CLINTON — The Pascagoula Panthers continued to make school history Saturday night.
Pascagoula ran its school-record win streak to 21 straight games, with what turned out to be an exciting 60-59 decision down the stretch over powerful Yazoo City here in the prestigious “Rumble in the South” at A.E. Wood Coliseum on the campus of Mississippi College.
The six-game annual affair was originally slated for Monday on MLK Day but was postponed five days due to weather-related issues.
The win streak is the longest for any athletic program in the history of PHS in the “Modern Era”, as Pascagoula moves to an impressive 21-1 overall mark.

“It was a great win against a championship program in a tough environment,” PHS head coach Lorenzo Wright said, immediately after the game. “We were fortunate enough to get the win after blowing a huge lead.”

The teams were knotted up at 11-11 after the opening quarter, but Pascagoula would use a 10-0 run early in the second stanza as a springboard to yet another win. The Panthers went on to lead by as much as 18 points, at 49-31, at the end of the third frame before the Rangers made it interesting in the final four minutes of play.

Blake Nettles had 14 points to lead Pascagoula’s balanced winning attack. Kelan Rich chipped in 13 points, while both Dorian McMillan and Markeuse Grady added 10 points apiece for the Panthers. Rich added six assists and McMillan and Grady both had five rebounds as well.
Damarion Winston poured in a game-high 33 points for Yazoo City, which is the top-ranked team in Class 5A and dropped to a solid 18-3 overall with the loss.

Pascagoula hasn’t lost since opening the season also in the Jackson area with a 53-51 defeat at the hands of home-standing Madison Central in the first game of the season. The decision came in the annual “The Jump” season-opening event.
Saturday’s game marked the fifth trip to the Jackson area this season for the Panthers and was actually the seventh game for PHS in that geographic region also after the Panthers won three games and took home the title in the inaugural Madison County Tournament the week between Christmas and New years and participated in the BA$A event just a week earlier that also took place in this same venue in Clinton.

The Panthers notched their 20th win Friday night also on the road in Lucedale with an 81-34 thumping of George County. That win pushed Pascagoula to a perfect 7-0 in Region 4-6A play.

Pascagoula wasn’t the only squad from the “Southern Six” in action at The Rumble on the South Saturday, as Harrison Central fell to Ridgeland 56-51 earlier in the day.
The Red Rebels rallied from an early 11-6 deficit after the first quarter to steadily work and take a brief 36-34 lead at the end of the third frame.
However, the Titans outscored HCHS 22-15 in the fourth period to pull out the win.
Shaun Murray posted 15 points to lead the Red Rebels, while Aujaylen Barron added 10 points for HCHS and Jonathan Pace just missed a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.
The Red Rebels now sit 15-8 overall on the season.
