While the top two teams in the Region 4-6A girls’ standings faced off Tuesday when Hancock beat Pascagoula, West Harrison kept its chances of earning a top two seed in the upcoming league tournament alive as well.
The Lady ‘Canes rolled home-standing George County out of Rudolph Sellers Gymnasium Tuesday night with a dominating 72-37 win to move to 6-2 in the region race and into a tie for second place with Pascagoula with two games left in the league schedule.
West Harrison got eight points from junior forward Miranda Parker in the opening quarter, and Sydnei Barber added seven points including a 3-pointer in the period as the Lady ‘Canes wasted no time in jumping out to a quick and commanding 20-point lead at 26-6 entering the second period.

Leading 37-14 at halftime, Barber enjoyed a big third frame with 13 points and West Harrison cruised to the win.
Barber tallied a game-high 26 points for the Lady ‘Canes, while Parker chipped in 18 points to the winning effort. Taylor Rae Norwood added eight points for WHHS.
The performance from Parker continued an impressive recent streak for the three-year starter as she was coming off of her 15th career double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds in a win over Long Beach on Friday and two days before that she had 10 points and seven rebounds in a win over Picayune.

West Harrison holds its postseason fate in its own hands, as the Lady “Canes head to Pascagoula on Friday before returning home to host powerful Hancock on Tuesday to wrap up the region portion of its schedule.
With the recent expansion in classifications, the top two seeds in each region not only get a bye in the first round of the league tourney but also automatically qualify for a spot in the opening round of the state playoffs.

Dekari McNairled the Lady Rebels with a solid 18-point performance in the loss as GCHS dropped to 8-14 overall and occupies the cellar at 0-7 in league play.
George County hosts league-leading Hancock Thursday night. The Lady Hawks can wrap up the top seed in the upcoming region tourney and clinch a berth in the Class 6A South State playoffs with a win.
In other Region 4-6A play earlier this week, home-standing Picayune pulled into a tie for fourth place in the region race with Long Beach after the Lady Tide knocked off the visiting Lady Bearcats 32-27.
Both squads now sit at 2-6 in league play with a pair of region games left for each.
Picayune moved to 9-16 overall with the win, while Long Beach fell to 8-14.
Also, on Friday when West Harrison is in a big battle with Pascagoula, Hancock is at home for Senior Night hosting Long Beach and George County travels to Picayune.
