BILOXI — The home-standing Biloxi Indians made sure the top two seeds in boys’ Region 4-7A play were the same as the leading pair on the girls’ side Tuesday night.
The Indians of veteran head coach Seber Windham held off a valiant comeback attempt from Ocean Springs to secure a key 56-51 league win over the Greyhounds at the Biloxi Sports Arena to wrap up the region portion of each squad’s schedule.
The win not only helped Biloxi earn a measure of revenge for a 62-51 loss on the road at OSHS in mid-December, but it also locked in the second seed in the region race for the Indians with an 8-2 mark in the loop and the automatic berth in the upcoming Class 7A South State playoffs.
With the recent expansion in classifications, the top two seeds in each region not only get a bye in the first round of the league tourney but also automatically qualify for a spot in the opening round of the state playoffs.

The game was knotted up at 48-48 with just less than three minutes to play when Biloxi’s D’Marion Hayes made two of three free throws to put the Indians up 50-48 with 2:48 left.
Ocean Springs rebounded 90 seconds later when Christian Bingham nailed a 3-pointer from the top of the key that gave the Greyhounds what would be their last lead of the night at 51-50 with 1:14 to play.
But Reggie Conner’s twisting and twirling lay-up with 33 seconds to go made it 52-51 Biloxi, and then Conner added a pair of free throws:10 seconds later to make it 54-51.
Conner’s two free shots with three seconds remaining resulted in the final count.

Conner poured in a game-high 21 points to pace Biloxi, including the Indians’ final six points in the decisive closing 33 seconds. His backcourt mate Dayshawn Mcgee chipped in 12 points to the winning cause.
The Indians moved to 19-7 overall and finished the region race at 8-2, one game behind Harrison Central.
Ocean Springs wound up at 7-3 in league play and sits at 16-7 overall. The Greyhounds got 13 points from Nolan Wells and 12 points from Bingham while Kaleb Bradley added nine points.
Ocean Springs was playing its second straight region game without the services of senior point guard Elijah Isom due to disciplinary reasons. Also, his backcourt partner Maddox Noblitt, who tallied a game-high 19 points in that previous win over Biloxi, was held to just five points by the Indians Tuesday night including just two in the final three quarters.

Elsewhere in Region 4-7A play Tuesday night, D’Iberville nipped home-standing Gulfport 36-31. The Warriors got a game-high 16 points from Juan Santiago in the win, as they finished up 4-6 in the region race and stand 10-16 overall.
The Admirals, who suffered their sixth straight loss overall and fourth consecutive at Bert Jenkins Gym, fell to 2-8 in league play and 7-18 overall.
Harrison Central wrapped up the top seed in the loop with a 75-26 win over St. Martin Monday night.
