A pair of girls’ teams that finished atop their respective region standing will close out regular season play Thursday night in a rematch against one another from earlier in the year.
Harrison Central hosts Hancock in a match-up of a pair of 20-plus win Southern Six” squads. The Lady Hawks come into the contest in Lyman with a lone blemish on its record at 25-1 and as the Region 4-6A regular season champs while the HCHS girls stand at 22-3 overall and they ended up tied atop the Region 4-7A race with Biloxi.
One of HCHS’s trio of losses came in mid-December to Hancock, 49-31 in a contest that was played during the the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Classic at Dantzler Arena in Perkinston. One of HCHS’s other losses came to yet another 20-plus win team in their region rival Biloxi, as the Lady Indians sit at 23-4 overall.
Harrison Central finished up league play on Monday night at home with a 59-52 win over St. Martin to end region action at 9-1, same as BHS.

Harrison Central got a game-high 18 points from Dandy Dozen senior standout Anaisha Carriere, while her younger sister freshman Jayla Carriere chipped in 15 points including a trio of 3-pointers. Larissa Hubbard added 14 points to the winning cause as well, while Saniyah Murray had eight points.
St. Martin got 15 points from Kaleah Lowery, while Tierra Lee added 12 points two days before signing with Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Kylenn Ward had eight points also.
The Lady Yellow Jackets stand 19-6 overall, and will shoot for a 20-win season as well Thursday night during “Senior Night” at home.

Elsewhere in Region 4-7A play this week, on Tuesday night Biloxi remained in that deadlock with HCHS at 9-1 atop the league standings with a 53-18 win over visiting Ocean Springs. Freshman center Zaniya Johnson led the charge for the Lady Indians with 18 points and eight rebounds, while Aaliyah Davidson chipped in 11 points and five assists to the winning cause and Kylie Caruso had five steals.
Starr Jackson had 13 points to lead Ocean Springs. The Lady Greyhounds finished the region race at 0-10, and stand 4-16 overall.

Ocean Springs finishes up regular season action at West Harrison on Friday night, while Biloxi travels to Theodore, Ala., Thursday night to do the same.
The Lady Bobcats handed the Lady Indians one of their four losses on the season. In fact, THS held BHS to its lowest-scoring output of the season in that game a 21-17 win. Biloxi’s other losses were to Hancock, Harrison Central and McGill-Toolen of Mobile.
Also on Tuesday night, D’Iberville beat Gulfport 55-37 to finish the region race at 4-6. Gulfport ended up at 2-8.
Gulfport hosts Gautier Friday night. The Region 4-7A Tournament tips off Monday in Ocean Springs.
