The postseason begins this week for all prep basketball players and teams in the “Southern Six”. Many face season-ending scenarios on either Monday or Tuesday.

Each week until the first weekend in March at the overall state tournament in Jackson, SouthMiss6 Sports will be the place to be to keep up with the most complete and comprehensive info about all things prep basketball featuring stories and photos in the “Southern Six” counties of the state of Mississippi.

Each week, on Monday, we will take a look at at least five players and five games to keep an eye on as well as release our weekly “Super 7 in the Southern 6 Poll”.

Starting 5 in the “Southern 6

This week’s top Players were easy to choose. As the regular season winds down this week, we salute the players from our coverage area that eclipsed the magical 1,000 career points scored this year.

1. Kamaiyah Pruitt, Pass Christian — The Lady Pirate standout passed the magical 1,000 total points scored in her career last week.
2. Brooklyn Cuevas, Hancock — The William Carey signee led her team to a 26-1 record this season.
3. Dorian McMillan, Pascagoula —  The senior standout shooting guard and Dandy Dozen selection has helped his team to a school record 25-game win streak while compiling a program best-ever mark of 25-1 this season.
4. Kayla Fricke, Bay High —  The versatile senior guard has helped guide her Lady Tigers team to 14 straight wins as they stand at 23-5 on the season.
5. Sydnei Barber, West Harrison — The sophomore sensation poured in a game-high 30 points in a 66-40 win over Ocean Springs to wrap up the regular season Friday.
6. (Sixth Man) La’Dymien Lafayette, St. Martin — In her final year on the squad, the senior helped lead her team to a 20-win season.

This Week’s Games:

1. Gulfport vs. D’Iberville (boys) — Monday in Ocean Springs at the Region 4-7A Tournament.
2. Stone at Gautier (girls)— Monday at the Region 4-5A Tournament in Gautier.
3. St. Stanislaus vs. St. Patrick (boys) — Thursday in the Region 8-3A Tournament at Perry Central.
4. Pass Christian vs. Moss Point (girls) — Thursday in the Region 8-4A Tournament at Poplarville.
5. Region championship games (boys, girls) — Friday. Pick one, you can’t go wrong.
