PASCAGOULA — Resurrection came into this season with back-to-back Class 1A state championship titles sitting in its trophy case.
Apparently, visiting St. Stanislaus didn’t bother stopping by the school on its way to Lee Tingle Field Saturday to admire the hardware.
The Rock-A-Chaws crashed the Eagles mid-flight with a convincing 18-8 win Saturday afternoon in the only scheduled meeting of the season between the pair of “Southern Six” Catholic league powers. St. Stanislaus not only banged out a season-high run total but matched that with a like number of hits for a season-best so far as well.

Both squads scored three runs each in the first frame, with a pair of Resurrection’s coming on a two-run home run by Trace Tingle.
But the Rocks came out strong in the second stanza as well, scoring five more runs to take control of the contest.
Henry Nunmaker had a key two-run double in that eruption to give SSC the lead for good at 5-3, while Will Powell followed that up with a two-run double of his own three batters later and suddenly St. Stanislaus was up 7-3.
Nunnmaker laid to rest any thoughts Resurrection had of coming back an inning later when he smacked a three-run home run amid a four-run third frame to make the count 12-3 and give the Rocks a commanding lead.
Harris Hinkle added a solo home run in the fourth for the Eagles, and when RCS managed to cut the deficit to 12-8 St. Stanislaus’ Dylan Lamb jacked a two-run home run in the top of the fifth to seal the win at 14-8.

Brady Wallis paced the Rocks at the plate with a game-high three hits and he drove in three runs, while Wiley Mossy added three hits as well. But Nunmaker wielded the big stick on the day for SSC with those two extra base hits and collecting a game-high five RBIs. Powell registered a pair of hits and drove in four runs in the winning effort as well.
Hayden Porter led the Eagles with two hits.
Sophomore Tate Murphy picked up the win for the Rocks, while Carter McCammon started and took the loss for RCS.
Resurrection, which stands 2-2 on the season, next makes a road trip to Pass Christian Tuesday night.

The Rocks were coming off a 10-6 win over D’Iberville Friday night.
St. Stanislaus led throughout the contest before securing the win with a five-run seventh stanza.
Murphy led the way for SSC in that win, with a game-high three hits including a double and two RBIs while Mossy also chipped in two hits including a run-scoring double. Nunmaker recorded a two-run double also.
Next up for SSC is a return engagement to Pascagoula on Tuesday night to battle Pascagoula in a game that was originally scheduled for Wednesday.
