Both Vancleave and St. Martin picked up nice road wins in battles on the “Southern Six” front Saturday.
In Biloxi, visiting Vancleave knocked off the Indians 4-1 while in Gulfport St. Martin went to West Harrison and tripped up the home-standing Hurricanes 9-8.
Vancleave bounced back. from a pair of losses to George County during the week to wrap up the weekend on a good note as the Bulldogs used a three-run fifth frame to overcome a 1-0 Biloxi lead and rally for the win.
The Bulldogs moved back above the .500 mark at 4-3 with the win, after dropping games to the Rebels on both Tuesday and Thursday.

Biloxi broke an early scoreless tie when Robbie Hokamp doubled in a run in the third frame to make it 1-0.
Indian starting pitcher Will Miles was rolling right along through four innings hurling shutout ball until the fateful fifth frame. Aidan Tapp walked to lead off the inning for the Bulldogs, and Robert Tinson followed that with a single. When the next batter, Tanner Willis, bunted his way to first with an infield single, suddenly Vancleave had loaded the bases against Miles with no outs.

Asher Henley followed that with an RBI-ground out to shortstop that plated Tapp, and two batters later Martin Shaw’s two-run triple to right field scored Tinson and Henley and VHS moved to the bottom of the fifth with a new game and a 3-1 advantage.
Layton Eder’s RBI-single in the top of the seventh gave the Bulldogs an insurance run and ended the scoring on the day.

Logan Fontenelle and Judson Byars had a pair of hits apiece to pace the Indians at the plate, while both Fontenelle and Hokamp had doubles. Biloxi out-hit VHS 8-6 in the loss.
Six separate batters had a hit for the Bulldogs, with Shaw’s triple the only extra-base knock.
Levi Tapp went the distance on the mound to pick up the win for VHS, giving up those eight hits while striking out three and walking just one in his complete game performance.
Miles took the loss.
Next up for Vancleave is a trip to Pascagoula Tuesday night. Biloxi wraps up a three game home stretch hosting Long Beach on the same night. The Indians also stand 4-3 after the loss.

Also on Saturday, St. Martin followed the same type of comeback script that their Jackson County counterparts did with a big five run rally in the sixth stanza to pull out the close 9-8 win.
St. Martin got seven singles in the winning effort with each coming from a different batter. Sean Stiglets posted a game-high four RBIs in the game for the Yellow Jackets.

Reece Parker tallied a game-high three hits including a double for the Hurricanes in the loss, while both Hunter Ross and Jack Mann each had two hits including a double and both drove in three runs apiece as well.

St. Martin moved to 3-4 overall with the loss. Knute Robinson, one of five Yellow Jacket pitchers, picked up the win.

West Harrison dropped to 1-5 overall with the loss. Ross took the loss.
Next up for the Yellow Jackets is a home game against Alam Bryant (Ala.) Tuesday night, while the Hurricanes blow int Gautier on the same night.
