PASCAGOULA — Second-year Resurrection head coach Aron Frederic couldn’t have designed a better way for his two-time defending Class 1A state champs to head into Region 8-1A play.
The home-standing Eagles flew past Tupelo Christian 10-2 Monday night in a rematch of the 2021 Class 1A state title series. Resurrection, which captured state titles in 2022 and last season, now heads into league play on the road at Lumberton Tuesday night at 6-2 overall.
“We’ve had a good start to the season,” Frederic said. “We had some momentum going until the weather got us last week. Pitching will be the key for us again this year. We’ve had several guys step in nicely to fill positions left from last year’s senior group. We tried to put together a good, competitive non-district schedule to help prepare and have our guys ready for the second half of the season.”

And that’s exactly what the Eagles accomplished with the win Monday night, as the home team jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first frame and never trailed in earning the win.
Justin San Miguel led the game off for RCS with a walk, and after an out Luke Schnoor was hit by a pitch and Hayden Porter singled to load the bases.
Carter McCammon then gave RCS a lead it would never relinquish driving in a run with an RBI-walk, and Harris Hinkle then provided the big blow in the frame with a two-run, two out single to make it 3-0.
Resurrection pitchers Schnoor and McCammon then took over and combined to limit TCHS to just a single run over the next five frames while their teammates added single runs in both the fourth and fifth innings including a solo home run by San Miguel to make it 5-1 heading to the sixth stanza.

The home team ended any hopes of a late comeback by Tupelo Christian by doubling their output to that point with five more runs in the sixth to make it 10-1. Hinkle and Bryce Brown each had RBI-singles in that eruption.
Brown had a game-high three hits to pace RCS at the plate, while Hinkle chipped in a pair of hits and collected a game-high three RBIs and McCammon added two hits and drove in a pair of runs in the winning effort also.
McCammon earned the win in relief, while Thomas Goralczyk took the loss.
Resurrection returns home on Thursday to face Lumberton in the return match of Tuesday night’s region opener.
