VANCLEAVE — It was a mixed bag of results for home-standing Vancleave in Battle at the Beach action this week.
After dropping an 8-0 decision to Madison-Ridgeland Academy on Monday night, the Bulldogs bounced back a bit with a 10-2 win over South Panola at “The Landing”.
Vancleave, under the direction of veteran head coach Justin Edwards, stands 6-5 overall as it awaits a visit from Hancock on Saturday in the final tune-up for both squads before beginning their respective region play next week.

In the big win over the Tigers Tuesday, Vancleave broke open a close one-run game by scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth frame to take a 6-2 lead and take control of the contest.
Hunter Parker had a run-scoring single in the rally while Hunter Harper had the big blow with a two-run double.
Vancleave then blew the game open and ended it as well with a four run sixth stanza as Layton Eder cracked a two-run double and Robert Tinson added an RBI-double.
Parker tallied a game-high three hits to lead the 11-hit winning attack for the Bulldogs, while he, Harper and Eder all dove in a pair of runs apiece. Tyler West and Tinson both had two hits apiece.
Harper went the distance on the mound, twirling a two-hitter while striking out eight and walking just two in picking up the win.
Eli Raines had a double for SPHS.

On Monday night, MRA jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first frame and never looked back in taking the 8-0 win.
Leading 4-0 after five frames, the Raiders struck the final blow with three more runs to take command at 7-0.
The Bulldogs managed just three hits in the loss, including a double by Martin Shaw.
Tony Craven started and took the loss for VHS, while Jack Poole earned the win for JA.
Hancock comes into Saturday’s battle with the Bulldogs of its only appearance in the BATB on Monday as the Hawks also lost to an MAIS squad from the Jackson Metro area.

St.Joseph Catholic of Madison beat home-standing Hakcock 10-6 Monday night. The Bruins grounded the Hawks quickly reeling off a 7-0 lead with a trio of runs in the first frame along with two more in each of the second and third stanzas to break the game open.
Hancock got a grand slam from Hunter Kuhn in a five run fourth frame, and Jaxon Knight also had a double for the Hawks in the loss.
Hancock stands 5-5 overall on the young campaign. The Hawks host Mize Friday night before heading to Vancleave Saturday.
