BAY ST. LOUIS — Bay High and Greene County split a pair of games to open Region 8-4A play this week, with the visiting team winning each time.
On Tuesday, the Tigers won in Leakesville for the first time in 15 years with a 9-3 decision. The Wildcats returned the favor Saturday afternoon in the resumption of the second game of the home-and-home affair taking a 9-2 win.

On Tuesday, Bay High took a quick 1-0 lead in Leakesville in the top of the first frame and never trailed in picking up the win.
Walker Seymour wielded the big stick at the plate for Bay High, as he cracked a home run and a triple and drove in a game-high three RBIs. Ethan kingston added a pair of hits, including a run-scoring double, while Carson Tallent, Paul Verdin and Brennan Bilich also added a pair of hits each to the winning 10-hit attack.
Seymour didn’t stop with his stellar night at the plate, as he also picked up the pitching win on the hill with six stanzas of work striking out seven. Shug Reynolds, a transfer from Resurrection, tossed the seventh.
Cole Helton had a two-run double for GCHS, while Brayden Bufkin took the loss.

In other Region 8-4A action in the opening week of league play, Poplarville rose quickly to the top of the region race with a pair of wins over Pass Christian.
The Hornets knocked off the Pirates 10-7 on the road Tuesday night and then PHS bombed PCHS 16-3 in five frames at home two days later on Thursday.
In the first game, Braden Babowski had two hits including a double and drove home a game-high three runs for Poplarville, while Ty Keyes slapped a two-run triple and Braylon Magee drove in a pair of runs in the winning effort as well. Emile Pace had two hits for the Hornets also.
Babiowski also earned the pitching win.
Skylar Summerville had a pair of hits and also drove in a game-high three runs for the Pirates, while Kayleb Munsch and Stephen Tinsley each had a double apiece for PCHS.

In the second game on Thursday, the Pirates actually scored the first two runs and the last run of the game but it was the 16 runs they gave up in between that proved to be their undoing.
Trailing 2-0, the Hornets eruppted for an eight run rally in the second stanza and added seven more in the third frame to take complete control and end the contest early.
Babiowski was back at it again, as his three-run double was the big blow in that second inning explosion and he also smacked a three run home run in the third.
Babiowski collected a game-high and career-high six RBIs in the dominating win. Brock Sheppard also had two hits and three RBIs for the Hornets.
Pace picked up the pitching win. Wesley Jolley took the loss.
