BAY ST. LOUIS — When your first win of the season comes 12 games into a new campaign it always makes it a little sweeter when that initial victory comes over one of your longest-standing rivalries.
And that’s exactly what Pass Christian experienced on Saturday.
The Pirates overcame an early 1-0 deficit on the road against home-standing St. Stanislaus Saturday afternoon with a five-run rally in the second stanza to take control and never look back en route to a 9-3 win to finally break a season-opening 11 game losing streak. Pass Christian, which was coming off a pair of losses to Poplarville to open Region 8-4A last week, is now 1-11 overall while the Rock-A-Chaws stand 7-4 overall.
St. Stanislaus was coming off a split in two games against West Marion to begin Region 8-3A play last week.

“It was great to get a win,” veteran PCHS head coach Ricky Smith said. “Our kids have been playing hard and we’ve had some tough luck but we finally played a complete game.”
After the Rocks took that aforementioned one-run lead on a run-scoring double from Brady Wallis in the first frame, the Pirates answered with their biggest inning so far in the current campaign with the five-run eruption.
Evan Anderson, who also came up big on the mound for PCHS, started the ball rolling offensively for the Pirates as well when he tied the game up on a run-scoring sacrifice bunt to make it to make it 1-1.
Two batters later, Landon Necaise posted an RBI-single to give the Pirates the lead for good, and two batters after that L.J. Jaynes added a run-scoing single of his own to make it 3-1.
The RBI by Jaynes started a string of three straight timely run-scoring singles for PCHS, as Skylar Summerville and Brendan Necaise each followed with RBI-singles of their own to suddenly make it 5-1 and the Pirates were never really threatened the rest of the way.

“Evan Anderson set the tone on the mound and we had great at bats all day,” Smith added. “Hopefully, we can take this momentum and get hot for the stretch run.”
Anderson started and picked up the win on the hill, hurling four frames and allowing three hits. Wesley Jolley followed that up wit two frames of work, and then Brendan Necaise wrapped up the day on the mound for PCHS.
Brendan Necaise, Stephen Tinsley and Landon Necaise each had two hits apiece to pace Pass at the plate, while Landon Necaise collected a game-high three RBi’s.

The Rocks only managed four hits off those three Pirate pitchers, with Wallis and Wiley Mossy each registering a double. Wallis, Jeremy Mares and Parker Saucier drove in a run each for SSC.
Mossy started and took the loss for the Rocks.

Next up, both squads jump back into their respective region races as PCHS hosts Moss Point in Region 8-4A play Tuesday night and SSC hosts Perry Central in Region 8-3A play on the same night.
