PASCAGOULA — Picayune pummeled Pascagoula 11-1 Tuesday night in the Region 4-6A opener for both teams.
Ahead by a pair of runs in a close contest at 3-1 entering the sixth stanza, the Maroon Tide rolled up an pair square in that inning to put the game away.
Picayune moved to 7-4 overall with the win, while the Panthers dropped to 6-6 overall.
Parker Helton produced a productive performance pacing Picayune at the plate with a game-high four hits, including a triple, and he drove in a pair of runs in the win. Kyler King and Landon Franklin each posted a pair of hits in the Maroon Tide’s 10-hit attack, with one of King’s hits a double and Braxten Carter had a double also. Carter and Turner Pugh each collected a pair of RBIs as well.

Cooper Moreaux tossed a gem of a game on the mound for Picayune, scattering just three hits and striking out nine in a complete game performance to pick up the win.
Griffin Wells posted a pair of the Panther hits, including a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth to provide Pascagoula’s only run in the loss.
Terry Lee started and took the loss for Pascagoula.
The two teams will see each other again this week in this region opening three game series, as they head to Kent Kirkland Fied in Picayune for a rematch Friday night before landing back in Pascagoula Saturday for the finale in the series.

Pascagoula came into the series off of a pair of wins in the ninth annual Battle at the Beach, including a dominating 14-0 win in less than four full frames over Natchez in Gulfport Saturday.
The win, coupled with an 8-1 victory over Tupelo Christian at home Wednesday night, gave PHS a 2-1 overall mark in BATB action.
Picayune was coming into play this week off of a pair of losses, including a 6-1 loss to Tupelo in the Battle of the Beach last Wednesday in Biloxi.
The Maroon Tide then fell to perennial state power Purvis over the weekend 4-3. Landon Watts had a pair of hits for Picayune in that game and Tanner Busby took the pitching loss.
