GULFPORT — Gulfport finished off a sweep of D’Iberville Saturday afternoon in Region 4-7A play, while Harrison Central took the rubber game of its three game series against St. Martin in league play as well.
After an 8-1 road win over the Warriors Friday night, the Admirals returned home to Herbert Wilson Field and dispatched D’Iberville 10-0 in six innings the next day to move to 3-0 after the first week of league play. Those two decisions, combined with a 9-0 shutout win at home to open the series Tuesday, leave the Admirals tied atop the region race with Ocean Springs.



Ole Miss signee Ethan Surowiec got the ship sailing early for the Admirals Saturday, as he posted a two-run single in the first frame to give Gulfport a quick lead it would never relinquish. The Admirals also added another run in their first at bat thanks to a Warrior error.
From that point on, Gulfport turned the game over to pitcher Prince Cottonham and he dealt a complete game three-hit shutout in picking up the win. He struck out six and walked just one in the impressive performance.
Cottonham also also enjoyed a productive day at the plate, with a game-high three singles for the Admirals. Both he and Surowiec drove in a pair of runs apiece in the winning effort, while Ethan Garner, Nico Williams, Joel Smith and Javin Childress each had an RBI apiece as well.
Cannon Wilson had two of the Warriors’ three hits in the loss, all of which were singles.
Ayden Demoran took the loss.



Gulfport begins a three game series with arch-rival Biloxi on Tuesday, while D’Iberville faces Harrison Central this week.
Those Red Rebels picked up a 10-run win in six stanzas of their own Saturday as well thumping visiting St. Martin 14-4.
Tri Gaughf wielded the big stick at the plate for HCHS in the win, posting game-highs in both hits with three and RBIs with five. His two-run single in the first frame amidst a four-run uprising gave the Red Rebels a 2-0 lead that they would never relinquish, and he then later added on a two-run double in the bottom of the fifth.
After the Yellow Jackets cut the deficit to 4-3 in the top of the third thanks in part to a big two-run error by HCHS, the Red Rebels immediately responded with a six spot in the fourth frame to take command and seal the win.



Tre Hanshaw had a key two-run single in that rally while Kaynen Beard had a two-run single also and Brady Hogue added an RBI as well.
Beard had three RBIs in the win, while Gabe Colon had a pair of hits in the winning 10-hit attack.
Jaxson Moore picked up the win.
Sean Stigletts led the Yellow Jackets at the plate with two hits and Will Roebuck had a double. Knute Robinson took the loss.
St. Martin faces Ocean Springs next week in Region 4-7A play.
The Red Rebels fell to St. Martin at home 8-3 to open the series on Tuesday, they were able to finish up with wins on Friday and Saturday
On Friday, HCHS slipped past the home-standing Yellow Jackets 6-4 in 13 innings. Moore’s clutch two-run home run in the top of the final inning provided the eventual game-winning runs.
