St. Stanislaus won round one against arch-rival St. Patrick in Region 8-3A play Tuesday night.
The Rock-A-Chaws went on the road and slipped past the Fighting Irish 2-1 in the first game of a back-to-back home and home and league series this week.
The win moves SSC to 3-2 in the region race, as the Rocks look to win the loop for the second straight season and make it back to the Class 3A state championship series.
St. Patrick came into the contest at a perfect 4-0 in the region race, but dropped its first league game after sweeping both Perry Central and Tylertown the last two weeks.
Game two of the series is set for Wednesday night in the Bay.

Game one was a pitching duel between SSC’s Brady Wallis and the Fighting Irish’s Jacob Alexander as both turned in impressive complete game performances.
Wallis allowed just five hits and struck out six while walking three in picking up the win.
Ayden Lee’s RBI-single in the bottom of the third gave SPHS a 1-0 lead and proved to be the only run Wallis would allow. The hit scored Eli Bowen, who walked several batters prior.
The Rocks bounced back immediately to not only tie the game up but take the lead as well on the same play, as Heath Shinn slashed a ground ball to the middle of the infield that the Fighting Irish misplayed into a two run error scoring Tate Murphy and Dylan Lamb. Murphy reached on a fielders choice after Lamb walked.

Wallis then returned to the hill and rolled through the next three frames before the Fighting Irish challenged in the bottom of the seventh. But with runners on first and second and two outs, he induced a game ending fielders choice ground out to shortstop to secure the win.
Alexander suffered the tough luck loss, as he went the distance and allowed no earned runs scattering just two singles and striking out nine while walking four.
Mares had both of those SSC hits. Trey Kopszwaya had a pair of St. Patrick’s five hits.

Elsewhere, in Region 8-1A play on Monday, Resurrection is set to host East Marion in a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon starting at 4 p.m.
