BILOXI — After Nico Williams threw a no-hitter on Tuesday night for Gulfport only to lose to arch-rival Biloxi 1-0, it seemed to really tick off the Admirals.
So much so, in fact, that Gulfport stormed back to take back-to-back wins over the Indians in a 16-hour span.
The two teams wrapped the three game Region 4-7A series up on Good Friday afternoon at the Biloxi Sports Complex as Gulfport out-slugged the Indians 10-7. That outcome, coming on the heels of a 5-2 Admirals win at home at Herbert Wilson Field on Thursday night, leaves Gulfport sitting solidly in the second spot in the region race at 5-1 entering the holiday weekend.
“I thought our guys played well,” veteran Gulfport head coach Jamie McMahon said after Friday’s win. “Our starting pitching was really good once again and we scored some runs early to give us some momentum. I’m proud of the way we responded after losing game one.”

In the finale Friday, the Admirals jumped out to a 7-1 lead after tallying three runs in the top of the first frame and four more in the second stanza.
Davis Ormes got things rolling for Gulfport with a two-run double five batters into the game, and then Joel Smith added a run-scoring double of his own to make it 3-0.
That senior standout Williams took matters into his own hands in the second inning, as he launched a a three run home run deep to left field to give Gulfport that 7-1 advantage and a lead it would never relinquish.
Biloxi had plenty of time to rally, and the Indians did bounce back a bit thanks in part to a solo home run by Jackson Irvin. But Brant Rounsaville added a two-run single in the fifth frame for Gulfport to help seal the win.

Prince Cottonham started on the hill and worked the first five frames for the Admirals to pick up the win.
Ormes and Yaviel Lopez each posted two hits apiece for Gulfport, while in addition to Williams’ big three-run blow both Ormes and Rounsaville each dove in a pair of runs apiece in the winning effort.
Wyatt Pyron started and worked briefly in taking the loss for the Indians, while Shawn Miguel Gollott finished up with just over five frames of fairly solid work in relief.
Irvin had a game-high three hits to guide the Indians at the plate. Biloxi fell to 1-5 in the region race, and as of late Friday afternoon was tied with both St. Martin and D’Iberville in the last spot in the standings.

On Thursday night, Ethan Surowiec slapped a solo home run for Gulfport and Ormes added an RBI-double as the Admirals bounced back from the opening game loss to take that 5-2 win.
Javin Childres had a team-high two hits for Gulfport and Luke Wilson had and RBI as well.
Smith earned the pitching win, as he and Thomas Stennis combined on a two-hitter to shut down the Indians.
Robbie Hokamp supplied both Biloxi runs with a two-run double in the top of the sixth to cut the final deficit to that 5-2 result.
