Picayune maintained its grip on the top spot in Region 4-6A with a 4-0 road win over West Harrison Saturday afternoon.
The win completes a three game sweep of the Hurricanes for the Maroon Tide, who moved to a perfect 6-0 in the region race after sweeping Pascagoula to open league play.
“We have to get better in a lot of areas, but if we can grind like that good things are going to happen.” Picayune head coach Evan Nicholson said earlier in the week.

On Saturday, Picayune shut out WHHS 4-0 in the finale of that series. Kyler King and Cooper Moreaux combined to limit the Hurricanes to just three hits and hold them scoreless. King picked up the win.
Clinging to a slight 1-0 lead entering the top of the seventh stanza, Picayune’s Landon Watts registered a key two-run double to provide his squad with some insurance runs and seal the win. Jamie Lumpkin had a pair of hits to pace Picayune at the plate.
Reece Parker had a double for West Harrison. He also took the loss for the Hurricanes on the hill.
West Harrison is tied with Pascagoula for fourth place in the region race at 1-5.

On Thursday night, the Hurricanes dropped an 8-2 decision on the road to Picayune.
Moreaux wielded the big stick at the plate for the Maroon Tide in that one, with three doubles and an RBI. King, Lumpkin, Watts and Parker Helton all had two hits apiece in the winning effort while Landon Franklin drove in two runs as well.
Tanner Busby started and hurled six stanzas to pick up the win for Picayune, striking out seven and walking four while allowing five hits in the process.
Maddox Jackson had two hits for the Hurricanes, while Jack Man and Kenny Linell each had a double apiece for WHHS.
Hunter Ross took the loss.

The Maroon Tide sits a game ahead of both George County and Hancock in the region race, as the Rebels and Hawks both sit at 5-1. George County swept Long Beach in three games last week, while Hancock took two out of three from Pascagoula after sweeping Long Beach to open league play.

Picayune and George County are set to face off in a big three games series beginning Tuesday night in Picayune.
