It’s another week of league play in the “Southern Six” as all seven classifications will be involved in their respective region races.

Getting to Trustmark Park in Pearl is the ultimate goal for every prep baseball player on every team in the state of Mississippi when the season tips off. And playing well in region action and earning a top four seed is the first step.

Each week until the overall state tournament starts in mid-May, SouthMiss6 Sports will be the place to be to keep up with the most complete and comprehensive info about all things prep baseball featuring stories and photos in the “Southern Six” counties of the state of Mississippi.

Each week we will take a look at at least five players and five games to keep an eye on as well as release our weekly “Super 7 in the Southern 6 Poll”.

Around the Diamond in the “Southern 6”

This week’s “Around the Diamond in the Southern 6” players list is comprised of some of the top single game performances by standouts that came up big for their respective teams in the ninth annual Battle at the Beach last week. 

  1. Gage Reeves, George County — In Region 4-6A play, the Rebels swept Long Beach in three games and Reeves went 8-for-11 at the plate with two doubles, a home run, and he had five RBI’s for the George County.
  2. Trenton Bond, Harrison Central — The Red Rebels won two of three games vs. D’Iverville in Region 4-7A play last week, and Bond went 6-for-14 at the plate with four doubles, two RBI’s, five runs scored, and two stolen bases in the Red Rebels 10-7 and 6-5 wins over and in a 11-10 loss to D’Iberville. 
  3. Asher Henley, Vancleave — Vancleave swept past Gautier in a three game Region 4-5A series last week, and in the Friday finale Henley stroked a trio of hits to lead the Bulldogs including a solo home run to lead off the game and he also drove in a three runs. Henley also had two hits a game two win over the Gators.
  4. Emile Pace, Poplarville — Pace had six hits over three games with nine RBIs ans the Hornets swept Moss Point in Region 8-4A play last week. Pace had two doubles, a triple and scored six runs. 
  5. Anderson Hickman, Stone —  The Tomcats shocked East Central with a three game sweep last week in Region 4-5A play as Hickman had three hits and a grand slam with six RBIs in the series and he also picked up a win on the mound.

This Week’s Games:

  1. West Jones at Pearl River Central — Tuesday in game one of a three game Region 3-6A series.
  2. George County at Picayune — Tuesday in game one of a three game Region 4-6A series.
  3. Harrison Central at Ocean Springs — Tuesday in the first game of a three game Region 4-7A series.
  4. Poplarville at Greene County — Friday in the second game of a two game Region 8-4A series.
  5. Gautier at East Central — Friday in game three of a three game Region 4-5A series.

    Interesting you don’t have Stone in either poll, they are leading the 5-5A division at 6-0 in baseball and in softball split with EC in that division.
