PASCAGOULA — The back-to-back Class 1A state champions broke out the long ball to capture a key region win Tuesday afternoon.
Home-standing Resurrection turned back Enterprise-Lincoln 10-0 in five frames in Region 8-1A play at Lee Tingle Field. The win marked the 43rd consecutive league win for the back-to-back Class 1A state champions, and marked 26 straight home wins in the loop.
The contest, the first of a two game, home and home series this week, is a rematch of last years Class 1A South State semifinals match-up in which RCS swept the Yellow Jackets en route to its second straight state title.
The Eagles move to 7-0 in the region race, while Enterprise Lincoln drops to 6-1 in this battle that will in all likelihood decided the top two seeds in the league for the upcoming state playoffs. Resurrection moves to 13-3 overall.

One of the smallest schools in the state is in the midst of one of the biggest achievements on the diamond, as the Eagles, which have won three straight Class 1A South State titles, have the longest league winning streak in the state. The last region loss for the Eagles came just under seven years ago, on April 7, 2017 on the road at Stringer. Resurrection hasn’t lost a home game in Region 8-1A play in almost eight years, and has won 25 straight at home.
In the latest win, the Eagles got four home runs in a decisive eight run rally in the fifth frame to break open a close contest and take command.
Resurrection used back-to-back home runs from Justin San Miguel and Trace Tingle to extend a 2-0 lead, and then both Hayden Porter and Michael Wayne Decoteau also homered in the outburst.

The Eagles took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second stanza when Carter McCammon scored on a two-out, bases loaded balk. Resurrection doubled that advantage up at 2-0 in the third frame on Porter’s RBI-double to left field.
Two innings later, San Miguel stepped up to the plate with Bryce Brown on first base and blasted the ball over the right field fence to once again double the RCS lead to 4-0. Tingle, also the winning pitcher, then followed that by swatting a shot over the centerfield wall to make it 5-0 still with no outs in the stanza.
After a pitching change by the Yellow Jackets, Luke Schnoor doubled and Porter followed with his two run shot to left. McCammon followed with a walk, and then Decoteau smacked a two-run round-tripper to left field to make it 9-0.

Still with no outs, Harris Hinkle walked and moved up to second on a wild pitch and then scored on an RBI-single by Phillip Lachausssee to make it 10-0 and end the game abruptly.
Porter’s two hits and three RBIS for RCS were both game-highs.
Tingle twirled a three-hit shutout in the shortened complete game performance. He struck out 10 in those five frames of work.
Kelly Burgess started and took the loss for the Yellow Jackets.
The two teams meet again Friday as the Yellow Jackets host the Eagles. Another RCS win will asure it of its seventh straight Region 8-1A title.
