Gulfport eased back into a tie for the top spot in Region 4-7A Tuesday night.
The Admirals thumped home-standing St. Martin 12-2 in just five frames to move to 6-1 overall in the region race in the first of a three game series. The teams will meet again Friday night in Gulfport and then Saturday back in St. Martin.
For the past week, Gulfport trailed Ocean Springs in the league standings but Tuesday’s win along with Harrison Central’s 5-3 road upset of the Greyhounds knotted things up at the top of the loop.
Admiral ace Nico Williams went the distance on the mound to earn the win, striking out six and scattering five hits while walking three.
Gulfport broke open a 0-0 tie in the top of the third frame with a 10 run eruption thanks to a pair of two run home runs, one by Davis Ormes and another by Javin Childres in the big explosion.
Ormes then supplied a second two-run shot in the top of the next inning to give GHS that final 12-2 advantage and wrap up the win.

Ormes led the way at the plate for the Admirals, with those two homers and four RBIs. Childres, Williams and Surowiec each had two hits apiece as well for the Admirals to account for all eight Gulfport hits in the winning effort.
Lake Fincher and Caleb Lawrence each had a pair of hits apiece to lead the Yellow Jackets, while Shane Dobson drove in a run.
Knute Robinson took the loss on the hill.
In other Region 4-7A play Tuesday night, Biloxi slipped into the all-important fourth spot in the region race with a road win also and did so with about as comfortable of a win as their longtime arch-rival with a 13-1 win over D’Iberville.

Both Conner Lofton and Tristan Haynes each had two hits apiece and drove in a run in the winning effort, while Forrest Wold and Logan Fontenelle each collected two RBIs apiece. Biloxi had 11 hits in the win.

Trey Jacquet had half of those Warrior hits.

Both teams are slated to meet again on Friday night at the Biloxi Sports Complex before returning to D’Iberville to finish out the three game series on Saturday afternoon.
