Prep Sports: St. Stanislaus wraps up Region 8-3A play with DH sweep of Tylertown to clinch playoff berth

BAY ST. LOUIS — St. Stanislaus played for the Class 3A state championship last season.
On Wednesday, the Rock-A-Chaws ensured themselves of a chance to compete for a state title again this season.
St. Stanislaus clinched a berth in the upcoming Class 3A South State playoffs with a doubleheader sweep of Tylertown in Region 8-3A play, taking game one 12-2 before earning a 7-0 win in the nightcap. The pair of wins assured the Rocks of at least the third seed in the five team league, and SSC can possibly slip into the second spot which would allow them to have home-field advantage in the opening round of the postseason.

After the 10-run mercy rule decision in the opener, SSC wasted no time in taking a quick lead it would never relinquish in game two scoring two runs in the first frame on an RBI-ground out by Brady Wallis and then Tate Murphy stole home.
St. Stanislaus broke the game open with a four spot in the third to seal the win and the ensuing playoff spot.
Wallis once again grounded out to drive in a run to make it 3-0, and the big blow came off the bat of Cole Shirley in the form of a timely two run single.
Murphy and Wallis had a pair of hits apiece to pace the Rocks at the plate, including a tripe by Murphy. while Wallis and Shirley drove in two runs apiece.
Sam Pike went the distance on the mound for SSC to pick up the win, tossing a complete game three hitter striking out seven and walking three to pick up the win.

In the opener, Chesley Rhodes wielded the big stick for the Rocks as he collected three hits, including a double, and drove in five runs both of which were game-high totals. Wiley Mossy had a double as well and drove in four runs, while Murphy added an RBI-triple and Will Powell had a run-scoring single.
Wallis went the six inning distance on the hill, earning the win with 10 strikeouts and three walks while allowing four hits.
St. Stanislaus heads to Pass Christian Saturday.

St. Patrick and West Marion each sit in the tp two spots in the Region 8-3A race, and those two teams will decided the number one, two and three seeds next week in a two-game series.
