OCEAN SPRINGS — Ocean Springs completed a three game sweep of D’Iberville in Region 4-7A play Saturday afternoon.
The home-standing Greyhounds knocked off the Warriors 8-2 to move to a solid 10-2 in the region race. Ocean Springs will take on second place Gulfport next week in a three game series to decide the top seed in the league standings for the upcoming and first-ever Class 7A South State playoffs.
The Admirals are sitting at 9-2 in the loop, and the four seeds for the region are already decided after action Saturday afternoon as Gulfport completed a three game sweep over Harrison Central and Biloxi did the same to St. Martin.
Either OSHS or Gulfport will be the top two seeds, while Biloxi and Harrison Central will face off for the third and fourth seeds next week also. Biloxi moved into the third spot at 7-5 in the loop and the Red Rebels trail by a game at 6-6.
Both St. Martin at 3-9 and D’Iberville at 1-11 have been eliminated from playoff contention.

“It was good to win those three wins this week,” first-year Ocean Springs head coach Ryne Long said Saturday afternoon. “I think we got away from what we do well a little bit in spots offensively, but got some big hits in crucial spots to give ourselves some breathing room. I thought we pitched well all week, got some things to clean up defensively but all in all I think our guys battled when it wasn’t necessarily going well or we didn’t have much going at the plate.”
On Saturday, Ocean Springs got two hits and two RBIs from Grant Russell in the winning effort, while Maddox Moreland also had a pair of hits and Cannon Hensarling drove in two runs.
Carter Naron had two hits for the Warriors and Caleb West posted a double.
Will Blevins, one of three Greyhound hurlers, picked up the win while Corbin Smith took the loss as DHS also sent a trio of pitchers to the hill.

On Friday night in D’Iberville, Ocean Springs got a solid performance on the mound from Hensarling in taking a 5-1 win in game two of the three game affair.
He twirled six strong stanzas and struck out 10 while scattering four hits and walking four in earning the win.
He got all the support at the plate he would need in the fifth frame, when his teammates overcame a close 1-0 deficit with a four run, game-deciding rally. Hensarling helped himself out with a run-scoring double in the inning, while both John Jordan and Simon Kruppa each delivered timely RBI-singles as well. All of those hits came with two outs, after A.J. Arguello drove in the tying run when he grounded into a double play.
Ocean Springs added an insurance run in the sixth on a Kristian Dillard Run-scoring single.
Jordan had two hits to lead the Greyhounds at the plate.
Both Naron and West had a pair of hits each to pace the Warriors offensively. West took the loss on the mound.
The series began on Tuesday with Ocean Springs taking a 9-3 win at home.
“We’ve got a phenomenal support system from the school, the boosters, and parents,” Long concluded. “I feel like we have a gritty group that play hard, and a senior group that have really taken some ownership in the program. Our guys are excited to be in position to make a playoff run, and im just glad to be apart of it.”
