GULFPORT —After a big win Tuesday night, Ocean Springs stands on the verge of its first region title in seven years.
The Greyhound overcame a 4-1 deficit with a big four run rally in the fifth frame to pull out a 6-4 road win in Region 4-7A play over Gulfport at Herbert Wilson Field. In the process, Ocean Springs moves to 11-2 in the region race and it moves two full games ahead of the second place Admirals. Ocean Springs now needs just. one more win in the final two games of the three game series to secure its first league title since 2017.

“We were lucky to sneak out of there with a win,” first-year OSHS head coach Ryne Long said. “They are really good, very well coached and balanced top to bottom. We kinda traded blows taking advantage of one another’s miscues.”
The Greyhounds went into the decisive fifth frame trailing by those three runs, but OSHS loaded the bases with one out and Chris Fox drew a walk with the sacks full to make it 4-2. Jack Jordan then scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-3, and the Greyhounds knotted the game up when Kristian Dillard drew a bases-loaded walk. Adam Clower followed that with an RBI-ground out to give OSHS a 5-4 lead.

The Greyhounds added an insurance run in the top of the seventh on a balk by the Admirals that plated Maddox Moreland.
Greyhound ace Jack Jordan turned in a complete game performance to pick up the pitching win, striking out 11 and walking none while allowing five hits and all four runs in the third frame.
The biggest issue for Jordan in that lone frame was a bases-loaded, three-run double off the bat of Joel Smith that gave Gulfport that aforementioned 4-1 lead.
“We got another great start from Jack,” Long concluded. “I thought he was okay until he gave up the base clearing double then he really went to work. I thought he hit another gear after that and kept us in striking distance.”

Fox paced OSHS at the plate with two hits and two RBI’s.
Ole Miss signee Ethan Surowiec had two hits and drove in a run for Gulfport and Nico Williams had two hits as well.
Williams, a Southeastern Louisiana signee in football, started and took the loss on the hill.
The two teams meet again in Ocean Springs on Friday night.
