NOXAPATER — Resurrection has won the last two Class 1A state baseball championships.
And, if the impressive play by the Eagles in the first round of this year’s South State playoffs is any indication, more room may need to be cleared on the trophy case at RCS as well.
Resurrection completed a thoroughly dominant two game sweep of Noxapater to open the Class 1A state playoffs with a 14-1 win in just five frames Monday night. The Eagles have now won 22 of their last 23 postseason games, and move to an impressive 21-4 overall this season.
The series-clinching win came two days later than scheduled, as game two was delayed from Saturday due to weather issues. Resurrection opened the affair with a 12-0 win at home Friday night, also in five innings.

“It’s good to be moving onto the second round,” RCS second-year Aron Frederic said. “We were able to get guys on base and had some big hits when we needed them.”
Hayden Porter carried the big bat for the Eagles Monday night, as he collected three hits including a home run and a double and drove in a game-high five RBIs. Michael Wayne Decoteau shared co-game-high hit honors with Porter with three also in the game-winning 12-hit attack, while Justin San Miguel blasted a grand slam in the top of the fourth to put the game away for RCS.
The Eagles combined for 27 runs in just nine innings and also posted 22 hits in the two game sweep.
Carter McCammon worked the shortened five frame distance on Monday to pick up the win, scattering two hits. That came on the heels of the same type of performance in game one from Trace Tingle as he struck out seven and limited the Tigers to just three hits on Friday night in tossing a shutout.

“We got two good performances on the mound from Trace and Carter,” Frederic added.
In game one, both San Miguel and McCammon smacked home runs for the Eagles, as McCammon ended up with two hits and a game-high three RBIs while San Miguel drove in two runs. Porter also had a pair of hits and drove in two runs, while Tingle added two RBIs. Decoteau had two hits also in the game-winning 10-hit attack.
Frederic and his crew now move on to face West Bolivar in the second round beginning on Friday. West Bolivar swept a doubleheader from West Leake County on Monday, taking game one 18-0 and game two West Bolivar 18-3.
Resurrection will host game one on Friday.
