PASCAGOULA — Due to a two day delay, Resurrection was one of the final teams in the state to move on to the second round of the state playoffs with an opening round series win.

The back-to-back Class 1A state champion Eagles, however, were the first team in the state to qualify for the third round.

Resurrection swept visiting West Bolivar in dominant fashion Friday afternoon at Lee Tingle Field 21-0 and 12-0 in the Class 1A South State quarterfinals. The wins move the Eagles to an impressive 23-4 overall on the season, and they are the first team in any of the seven classifications to qualify for the South State Semifinal round.

“I like where are we are at this time,” Frederic added. “All of our goals are still in front of us.”

West Bolivar swept a doubleheader from West Leake County on Monday, taking game one 18-0 and game two West Bolivar 18-3, to move on to face RCS.

In its first round series sweep of Noxapater, RCS won game one also at home one week ago 13-0 and was scheduled to travel to Noxapater the next day in hopes of closing out the series. However, the game was pushed back two days until Monday due to weather-related concerns.

When the game was finally played, the Eagles flew to a 14-1 win to wrap the series up. The Eagles combined for 27 runs in just nine innings and also posted 22 hits in the two game sweep.

Resurrection has now won 20 straight playoff games and 24 of their last 25 postseason contests. The Eagles have also won 20 straight home playoff games, although a couple of forfeits are included in that number.

The Eagles will now have a week off, before facing the survivor of the Ethel-Stringer three series

in the next round.
