OCEAN SPRINGS — The Ocean Springs Lady Greyhounds survived a tough first round match-up in their first-ever Class 7A South State playoff action and have moved on.
Home-standing Ocean Springs slipped past Oak Grove 6-4 Tuesday night in the third and final game of that opening round series to advance. The Lady Greyhounds won both games at home, including a 6-1 decision on Friday before falling 9-5 on the road on Saturday to set up Tuesday’s rubber match.
In the final game of the affair, Ocean Springs suddenly trailed 3-2 entering the bottom of the sixth stanza after Oak Grove broke a 2-2 tie with a run in the top of the inning.

But the Lady Greyhounds knew what to do to keep their season alive, erupting for four runs in the bottom of the sixth all with two outs to take a lead they would never relinquish and seal the win.
Kerrigan Scott’s RBI-single knotted the game back up at 3-3, and Gracie McDonald followed with a two-run double to give OSHS its first lead since the third frame at 5-3. McDonald came around to score on a wild pitch to seal the win at 6-3.
Scott had given the Lady Greyhounds a 2-0 lead in the second stanza with a two-run single before the Lady Warriors tied things up at 2-2 in the top of the third.

Brooklyn Peterson went the distance in the circle to earn the win for OSHS.
At the plate for OSHS, both McDonald and Scott had two hits apiece and both McDonald and Peterson posted doubles. Scott drove in a game-high three runs and McDonald had the two RBIs in the winning effort.
Ocean Springs must now face yet another opponent from the Hattiesburg area in the Class 7A South State semifinals as Petal is next up for the Lady Greyhounds.
Game one is set for Ocean Springs Friday night.
