LUCEDALE — Two traditional South Mississippi baseball powers will battle it out here at Claude Passeau Field with the season on the line for each Monday night.
George County hosts West Jones in game three of their three game series, after both registered 3-0 shutout wins 0n the road over the weekend. The Rebels stand 25-4 overall on the season, while the Mustangs sit at 23-7.



On Saturday night, in Ellisville, George County hurlers Preston McAdory and Canyon Reeves teamed up to keep the season alive for the Rebels as they combined on a four-hit shutout in the three-run whitewash.
McAdory started and worked the first five frames scattering two hits and striking out seven while walking five to pick up the win. The side-winder Reeves came on in the sixth stanza, and finished up allowing a pair of hits as well and he came up with a trio of big strike outs in earning a save.
The Rebels took a quick lead with a run in the second stanza on an RBI-ground out by Alex Wade. Thanks to the solid work on the mound by McAdory and Reeves, George County added two insurance runs in the fifth frame and that would seal the deal.
Tripp Lightsey drove in a run on a fielder’s choice while Cayler Havard stroked an RBI-single to center to plate the final run of the game.
Ben Davis had a double in the winning effort.



On Friday night in the series opener, West Jones ace pitcher Cam Clark shut down the Rebels 3-0. He struck out 11 and walked just two while twirling a dominant two-hitter to pick up the win.
Andrew Nielsen suffered the loss for GCHS. Gage Reeves had a triple for the Rebels, accounting for one of their two hits.
Game time is set for 7 p.m., Monday night for game three. George County has played for three state championships in the past decade in two different classifications, while WJHS won the Class 5A state tile in 2019.
