HATTIESBURG — Corinth ended East Central’s softball season Friday afternoon.

The Lady Warriors hammered out a 7-3 win over the Lady Hornets in game two of the best of three Class 5A state championship series here at The University of Southern Mississippi Softball Complex. The decision, coming on the heels of a 5-1 Corinth win in game one on Wednesday, gives the Lady Warriors a sweep of the title tilt.

Ir marked the first fast-pitch state crown for Corinth in school history, while East Central was looking for its seventh overall but first since 2009.

The Lady Hornets never led in either of the two games. Trailing 3-0 entering the top of the third frame in game two, East Central made its best move of the series scoring a trio of runs to knot the game up at 3-3.

With one out, Kensie Cochran singled followed by walks to Baleigh Tullos and Breyona Tanner to load the bases for East Central. Bree Phillips then came up with the biggest hit of the series for the Lady Hornets as she smacked a three-run double to centerfield that plated Cochran, Tullos and Tanner to tie things up.

But the deadlock was short-lived, however. as Corinth responded with a pair of runs in both the bottom of that frame and then following inning to take a 7-3 lead.

The Lady Hornets had no answer for Lady Warrior Addyson Moore. Moore cracked a solo home run in a three run second stanza to put the Lady Warriors on the scoreboard and then supplied a two-run round-tripper in the bottom of the third frame to break that aforementioned 3- 3 tie and put Corinth in the lead for good.

Abbie Huff took the loss for East Central in the final game of the season.

The Lady Hornets managed just four hits off of Corinth pitcher Callie Pounders, with that double by Phillips serving as the lone extra base knock.

Pounders picked up the pitching win in both games for the Lady Warriors.
