PEARL — In addition to bringing home the Class 5A state championship trophy, Vancleave dominated the First Team Class 5A All-State squad as well.

Also, the Bulldogs captured the two highest individual. honors as well.

Vancleave placed five players on the First Team, and Bulldog senior Tyler West was selected as Player of the Year in Class 5A. Vancleave head coach Justin Edwards, who led his squad to the state title in his sixth season at the helm, was named as Coach of the Year.

In addition to West, a pitcher/first baseman, catcher Layton Eder, pitcher Hunter Harper, shortstop Hunter Parker and outfielder Martin Shaw were all honored with First Team Class 5A All-State status.

West was also named the Most Valuable Player in the state championship series.

A pair of “Southern Six” standouts were named to the Second Team.

The Mississippi High School Baseball Coaches All-State Teams for all classes are voted on by coaches around the state who are members of the Mississippi Association of Coaches.
