There are a pair of different camps coming up this week for student/athletes in the “Southern Six” to keep an eye on.
In Hattiesburg, the third annual “Under the Lights” quarterback camp will take place at M.M. Roberts Stadium on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi Saturday night. The camp is conducted by quarterback guru Wyatt Davis.
The camp is slated for 6-9 p.m., and quite a few area standouts are expected to attend.
On the basketball court, former Pascagoula High standout Dale Brown is returning home once again to conduct his three day camp.
The now 16th annual Dale Brown Basketball Camp will take place at Taconi Elementary Gym in Ocean Springs starting on Friday and wrapping up on Sunday.
“It’s hard to believe we’ve been doing it this long,” Brown said. “I always look forward to coming back home and doing this camp for the kids.”

The camp, which is for boys and girls, will be split up between age groups with ages 6-11 going in the morning sessions from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m., and then from 1-5:30 the more advanced ages in middle school and high school players will compete.
“We’re big on player development, just making kids better,” Brown added. “And we have guest speakers that come and talk about life, education, spirituality and other aspects of life also.”
Brown, a former standout at Pascagoula High, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and the University of Kentucky, lives in Kentucky and also directs camps in Lexington. He will be joined by quite a few former players and coaches as instructors.

Brown helped lead Kentucky to the 1993 Final Four. He spent several years in high school and college coaching after that. For more information on the camp call 404-747-9364.
