Buckley Camp
The Terrell Buckley Foundation has once again partnered with the Gautier Youth Football organization for a free football camp on Saturday.
The camp will take place at the Gautier High football stadium and is for ages 5-18. Registration starts at 5:30 p.m., and the camp is set for 6-8 p.m. You can also use the QR code on the flyer to register prior to the camp.
This marks the third straight year Buckley has returned home to conduct the camp.
Through his foundation, Buckley’s goal is to “equip at-risk youth with tools necessary to be successful in life by offering tutoring, life skills, travel opportunities, nutrition education, and athletic skill development.”
The foundation also focuses on building character attributes in addition to cultivating athletic ability.
“I’m trying to teach fundamentals of both football and life,” said Buckley. “This is an opportunity for me to tell kids this is the same place I walked, if I can do it, you can do it.”
As a standout junior defensive back in 1987, Buckley guided Pascagoula to an undefeated season and a state championship. He then spent three seasons at Florida State where he was named a first-team All-American and captured the Jim Thorpe Award as the nation’s top cornerback.
In 1992, Buckley was selected fifth overall by the Green Bay Packers, and spent 14 seasons with various teams in the NFL including winning a Super Bowl title.
He has also served as an assistant coach on the collegiate level at both Ole Miss and Mississippi State as well as his alma mater FSU.
