PASCAGOULA — Under second year head coach Eric Denmark, Resurrection won two games in the Class 1A South State playoffs for just the third time ever last season.
Now, despite some major losses on both sides of the ball, as Denmark enters his third year at the helm of the Eagles RCS has its sights set on duplicating the success from last season when it won its first Region 8-1A title in eight years.
“We lost some key players off of last year’s team and we just want to be competitive this year,” Denmark said, in a recent interview. “But we’re excited about getting started. We put in a lot of hard work this summer and had a really good summer. I’m excited to see what type of product comes out for the first game.”
The Eagles will turn to eighth-grader Cortez King as the new quarterback. He’ll look to lineman Davis Walker to provide protection among others up front for RCS.
Defensively, Graham Summerlin and Will Zender will lead the charge up front while Eric Fox will be counted on to shore up the backfield. Joseph Foster will start at both offensive tackle and linebacker and is expected to be a key contributor on each side of the ball for Resurrection.

“We just wanna take one day at a time and get better and work on the things that we need to work on,” Denmark added. “I expect us to have another good season. We have four starters back on the offensive line, so that should help.”
Denmark is one of only a few prep football squads in the “Southern Six” to have multiple head coaches on its staff. Denmark’s defensive coordinator is former RCS, Pascgoula and East Central head coach Scott Sisson and his offensive coordinator is former ECHS Johnny Rogers.
“Coach Rogers has gotten the offense tuned up and Coach Sission has the defense tuned in,” Denmark concluded. “We are all looking forward to that first game.”
For the second straight season, RCS opens up against a much larger opponent in Class 4A foe Bay High. The Eagles overcame an 11-point second half deficit last season and slipped past the Tigers 29-26 at home last season but this year they head to McCullouch Stadium in the Bay to open the new campaign.
