GULFPORT — Gulfport opened the home portion of its prep volleyball regular season schedule in fine fashion Tuesday night.
The Lady Admirals swept visiting George County in three games at Bert Jenkins Gym 25-19, 25-12 and 25-13.
It marked the first action of the year for the Lady Rebels, while Gulfport was coming off of an appearance in the Mississippi High School Activities Association Invitational over the weekend in Jackson at the Jackson Convention Center.
The Lady Admirals captured three matches on the opening day of play on Friday, and then were one of four “Southern Six” squads to qualify for the”Gold Bracket” field on Saturday along with Hancock, Ocean Springs and OLA.

Gulfport fell to Ocean Springs in the quarterfinals two games to one.
Lynde Barnes had 11 kills and 7 total blocks for the Lady Admirals, while Lily Trosclair had 21 saves and Willianna Ruiz had three aces. Sydney Allen had 11 digs.
Up next, Gulfport travels to Oak Grove on Thursday for a doubleheader as the Lady Admirals face the host Lady Warriors as well as Jackson Academy.
Brandon defeated OLA 2-1 (25-23, 20-25, 19-17) to claim the 2024 MHSAA Volleyball Invitational Tournament Gold Bracket Championship.

The Lady Crescents bounced back Tuesday night at home in Bay St. Louis to sweep visiting Vancleave in three games 25-17, 25-18 and 25-9.
In other action in the “Southern Six” on Tuesday night as teams began regular season play, home-standing Resurrection swept past city rival Pascagoula in three games.
Also, Long Beach swept three games from visiting St. Martin 25-17, 25-12 and 25-9.
Two other teams playing at home also swept fellow “Southern Six” foes as home-standing St. Patrick knocked off Gautier 25-11, 25-14, 25-22 and Bay High stopped visiting Biloxi 25-16, 25-20, 25-21.

Also, Harrison Central went on the road and knocked off Poplarville three games to one Tuesday night and Hancock also hit the road to Hurley and swept East Central 29-27, 25-15 and 25-12.
Coming up on Thursday night, Hancock faces OLA and Vancleave travels to St. Martin while Moss Point hosts arch-rival Pascagoula and Long Beach travels to Pass Christian.
In addition, D’Iberville hosts Picayune and Stone travels to Harrison Central Thursday night while St. Patrick hosts Resurrection.
Picayune opened the season at home Tuesday night with a three game sweep of visiting Hattiesburg.
