D’IBERVILLE — Ocean Springs has now won 11 out of its last 12 prep volleyball matches and in the process remained perfect in Region 4-7A play with a sweep over D’Iberville Tuesday night.
The Lady Greyhounds dispatched the home-standing Lady Warriors 25-17, 25-14 and 25-10 in their latest outing to move to 16-4 overall and 5-0 in league play. The win allows Ocean Springs to maintain a tight grip on the top spot in the region race after the first round of league games.

“It feels great to start region play 5-0, but it is also where we expected to be.” OSHS head coach Christina Daigle said. “One of our goals going into this year was to be region champions, so we are pleased with how we have executed thus far but we know we have to stay focused and disciplined in the remaining region games in order to achieve that goal.”
The only loss for OSHS in the recent streak came to Spanish Fort (Ala.) on Aug. 24th. In the five region wins so far this season, against Biloxi, St. Martin, Harrison Central, Gulfport and D’Iberville, the Lady Greyhounds have lost just one set and that came in a 3-1 win on Thursday over second place Gulfport which sits 4-1 in the league standings.
On Tuesday night, junior Lilly Rutland paced OSHS with a game-high 16 kills while Carmela Coulter added 10 kills to the winning effort and Anna Hoffmayer added nine.
Alden St. Amant had 14 digs and River Schmidt added 13 digs, while Baylor Edmiston recorded 26 assists and Lucy Pepper chipped in 16 assists. Schmidt also added 7 receptions.

“The girls are very focused on our team goals this season,” Daigle added. “They have proven to have the fight in them that is required to be a contender for State this year. I am very proud of their play both in region games and outside of region play. We have had a tough schedule to start this year, and that was very intentional. We want to continue to play opponents who will challenge us and test what we are really made of.”
The Lady Greyhounds were coming off that aforementioned 3-1 win at home over Gulfport late last week.
In that win, Mary Carlton Descher recorded 18 kills while Edmiston had five aces and 13 assists and Pepper collected 21 assists. Schmidt contributed 14 digs and 24 receptions.
Next up for OSHS is a short trip to St. Martin to face the Lady Yellow Jackets Thursday night. The Lady Greyhounds swept visiting SMHS 3-0 two weeks ago.
