Prep Football: D’Iberville earns second straight impressive win with 33-12 decision over Gautier

D’IBERVILLE — Josh Ladner is in his third season as head coach at D’Iberville High School.
And for the first time in that span, his alma mater is off to a perfect 2-0 start to a season.
Home-standing D’Iberville pounced all over Gautier Friday night quickly and often en route to a big 33-12 win. The win, played in a torrential downpour at times, pushes the Warriors to 2-0 for the first time since 2021, which was also the last season that DHS qualified. for the state playoffs.
Gautier falls to 1-1.
The Warriors jumped out to a 21-6 lead after the first half, thanks to a pair of short scores within a short period of time late in the first period.

Warrior running back Andre Crosby scored the first points of the game on a short 1-yard touchdown plunge with 3:39 left in the first period.
Then, just over a minute later, D’Iberville defender Caleb Triplett picked up a fumble at the Gator one and fell into the end zone for a score and suddenly the home team was up 14-0 entering the second stanza.
The two teams traded scores in the next period, as Gautier got a 34-yard scoring dash from tailback Kasin Thomas and D’Iberville countered with a long scoring run of its own as Jeremiah Butler motored in from 54-yards out after he picked up a loose ball when Warrior quarterback Conner Jones misplayed the snap.
But Jones made up for that less than four minutes into the third frame, when he kept on a 1-yard sneak at the 7:54 mark to extend the D’Iberville lead to 27-7.
And Jones wasn’t done yet, as he basically put the game away early in the fourth period when he hooked up with Keilan Stepter on a 48-yard scoring strike to push the DHS lead to 33-17.

Gautier scored late to result in the final count when Trey Irving hooked up with Kanien Rush on a 56-yard touchdown toss late in the game.
Crosby paced the winning ground game for DHS with 16 carries for 122 yards and the one score, while Jayquan Havard also had 16 carries and ran for 97 yards.

Both teams came into the game off of wins, as DHS pummeled perennial state power Columbia 51-15 in week one and Gautier nipped Harrison Central 26-23 in overtime.

Next up for the Warriors is a trip to Picayune while Gautier heads home for the first time this season to meet arch-rival Pascagoula.
