Both West Harrison and Harrison Central came up with their first wins of the young season Friday night.

The Hurricanes went on the road and knocked off Sumrall 35-18 while the Red Rebels stopped visiting New Orleans Carver 27-0 at Earl Phillips Stadium in Lyman.

West Harrison got 100-yard rushing performances from three different players, as Jordan Stapleton ran for 197 yards and two touchdowns, Trey Harris picked up 106 yards and a touchdown on just eight carries and Sean Fairley rushed for 126 yards on nine carries and a pair of scores as well..

In other Harrison County action visiting Meridian stopped Biloxi 26-6 to hand the Indians their first loss of the year.

Also, home-standing Forrest County AHS handed Long Beach its first loss of the season as the Aggies moved to 2-0 with a 21-9 win over the Bearcats.

And, Pass christian picked up its first win of the season after losing to Long Beach last week as the Pirates went on the road to Purvis and torpedoed the Tornadoes 48-9.

St. Martin suffered its first loss of the season as Petal pounded the visiting Yellow Jackets 41-0 after running out to a 34-0 halftime advantage.

St. Patrick remained winless dropping to 0-2 with a 35-7 loss to visiting Slidell Pope John Paul.

In a game featuring yet another Slidell squad, home-standing Picayune evened its record up at 1-1 on the year with a 35-0 shutout over Northshore.

And in Lucedale, home-standing George County jumped out to a comfortable 51-14 lead at the half thanks to 300 yards passing and five touchdowns by Rebel senior standout signal-caller Deuce Knight and captured the “Battle for the Bell” over arcxh-rival Greene County 51-36.

And, Pearl River Central and South Jones was postponed until Saturday night at 6 p.m.
