Former George County High standout Dylan Lawrence is off to a good start in his last season at Southern Miss.
Lawrence, a 6-4, 215-pound graduate student, has hauled in an interception in each of the first two games of the season patrolling the secondary from his safety spot for the Golden Eagles .
On Saturday night, a pair of long fourth-quarter touchdowns, one on offense and one from the defense, helped Southern Miss pull away from Southeastern Louisiana at M.M. Roberts Stadium to secure a 35-10 victory.
Up 21-10 in the fourth quarter, Lawrence picked off a Lions pass and returned it 63 yards for a touchdown with 13:19 remaining. Late in the game, USM running back Kenyon Clay added a 70-yard scoring run with 1:44 left to help the Golden Eagles seal the deal.
That pick six for Lawrence came off another impressive individual outing in a season-opening 31-0 loss on the road to Kentucky as Lawrence had an interception on the first drive of the game and led Southern Miss with six tackles in the contest that was terminated early in the third quarter due to inclement weather.
Last season, the transfer from Mississippi State was one of two defensive players to start in all 12 games for USM and he led the squad in tackles with 78 (38 solo. Lawrence ranked 21st in the Sun Belt in tackles per game (6.5), and he posted double-digit tackles twice including a season-high 11 at Arkansas State (9/23 and 10 stops at Mississippi State.
During his playing days in Lucedale, he combined for almost 140 total tackles between his junior and senior campaigns before signing with MSU.

In honor of the 20th anniversary of the 2004 Class 5A South State Championship team, the school will recognize that Greyhound team on the field before the kickoff of the game Friday against Northwest Rankin at Greyhound Stadium
