MOSS POINT — For the third time in four years, Gautier is off to a 3-1 start to a season.
The Gators swam into Dantzler Stadium and kept Jackson County rival Moss Point win-less on the season with a 48-33 win Friday night. The Gators, coming off a big 38-31 win over arch-rival Pascagoula last week, move to 3-1 with the win on the banks of the Escatawpa River over the Tigers who fall to 0-4.
Gautier quarterback Trey Irving was the catalyst for the Gator offensive explosion, as he ran for three touchdowns and threw for two more in the big win.

“It was a good team win,” veteran Gautier head coach Marc High said. “The offense showed a lot of spark. The offensive line gave our quarterback a lot of time to make his reads and got a lot of push up front.”
In fact, Irving gave the Gators a quick lead they would never relinquish as he turned a broken play into a 36-yard scoring scamper less than two minutes into the game to make it 7-0 at the 10:15 mark of the first period.
He was back at it again just over eight minutes later when Irving found Devon Garrett in the end zone from five yards out for a touchdown toss and the Gators were up 14-0 with two minutes left before the second period.
There was more to come from Irving, as just three minutes later he opened the second stanza by connecting with Kainen Rush for a 35-yard scoring strike to extend the Gautier lead to 21-0 with 11 minutes to go before halftime.

Irving accounted for his fourth score of the first half when he kept the ball from three yards out for another touchdown run at the 3:35 mark of the second period. Eric Robinson’s fourth point-after of the first half made it 28-0.
After Moss Point scored in the waning moments of the first half to make it 28-6 on a 42-yard pass from quarterback Ke’Von Ford to wide out Con’Darius McCorvey, the Tigers continued to cut into the deficit with another score early in the third period to make it 28-12 shen Alex Nettles scored on a 16-yard run.
But Gautier responded, as Irving went back to work on the ground and ran it in from 20 yards for his third rushing touchdown of the game. Robinson’s PAT made 35-12 mid way through the frame.

Gator running back Latrell Pogue all but put the game away when he scored from six yards out to make it 41-12 with a minute to go before the fourth quarter.

Ford found McCorvey again, this time from 7-yards out ,for another MPhS score and Ford also added a pair of hort scoring runs of his own to result in. the final count.

Irving finished the night 15-of-24 passing for 225 yards and the two first half scoring passes, while he added right at 100 yards rushing and the three scores on the ground as he accounted for 325 total yards and the five touchdowns in the win.

Garrett had seven receptions for 87 yards and the one score.

Gautier is off next week while Moss Point continues to search for its first win under new head coach julius Bridges as the Tigers host West Harrison. The Hurricanes moved to 3-1 on the season with a 55-0 thumping of visiting Bay High Friday night.
