BILOXI — An early season renewal of an old Big 8 Conference rivalry took place at the Biloxi Sports Complex Friday night.
Visiting Hattiesburg slipped past the home-standing Indians 12-7 in a back-and-forth battle. The Tigers remained unbeaten on the season at 4-0, while Biloxi is now 2-2 under first-year head coach Jamey Dubose.
With just over two minutes left in the first quarter, Biloxi quarterback Wyatt Pyron hit Tristain Haynes for30-yards to the Hattiesburg six yard line to set up what would be the only score of the game for the Indians.
Two plays later, Biloxi tailback Jamir Haskins scooted in from the three to put the Indians up 7-0. It also marked the first time this season that the Tigers trailed in a game.

But the Tigers bounced right back with a scoring drive of their own as Jaboris Jones ran five yards for a touchdown early in the second quarter. The point-after failed, and Biloxi led 7-6 at halftime.
Two minutes into the third quarter, Hattiesburg wide out Tyree Barnett took a speed sweep 48-yards through the Indian defense to provide the decisive points and making it 12-7.
Barnett is a transfer from Harrison Central. It marked the 82nd all-time meeting between the two teams in a series that dates back to 1922.
It was Hattiesburg’s first trip to Biloxi in 11 years.
