Both unbeaten Poplarville and one-loss Gulfport faced stout defenses Friday night.

And both the Hornets and Admirals suffered similar consequences but in vastly different fashions.

Visiting Poplarville fell in a close battle to defending Class 6A state champion West Jones 10-7, while home-standing Gulfport got thumped by Brandon 42-0.

The Hornets fall to 4-1 with the loss, and the Admirals now sit 3-2 on the season.

Pass Christian also went on the road and came home with a defeat, after a 35-28 loss to Northeast Jones.
